Tear-off and haul-away of the old gutters is included. Fascia repair, if any, is its own line. Gutter installation cost Columbus-wide sits close to the national average; what pushes a job toward the top of these ranges is a hip roof with lots of corners, a big two-story with 6-inch runs, or fascia rot behind the old gutters. The replacement page explains the sizing.

Gutter guards

Aluminum screen $5–$9 per foot; stainless micro-mesh $10–$18 per foot. On a 160-foot home that's about $800–$2,900 depending on type. Cheapest when installed with new gutters, because the crew is already at every foot of the run. The guards page matches type to tree.

Gutter cleaning

Single-story $120–$200, two-story $180–$300, by the house not the hour, and the fee comes off any repair we find. See gutter cleaning.

Downspout drainage

Extensions $25–$80 each. A buried line to a pop-up emitter, $250–$600 per downspout. Two or three downspouts on the wet side of a house, $600–$1,500. The drain lines page has the full table.

What moves the price

  • Stories. Two-story work costs 15–25% more for the ladder setup, and three-story German Village homes more again.
  • Corners. Every inside or outside corner is a miter. A Muirfield hip roof with ten corners costs more per foot than a Grove City gable with four.
  • Fascia. The biggest surprise on 1990s homes, where the builder used finger-jointed pine. We check it before quoting so it isn't a surprise on the invoice.
  • Gutter size. Six-inch is roughly 20% more than five-inch and worth it on big roofs.
  • Access. Decks, screened porches, dense landscaping, steep lots near the rivers.
  • Color. White, brown, clay and the common trim colors are stock. A specialty color can add a week for the coil and a small upcharge.
  • Season. We don't charge more in spring, but April through June books up three weeks out. A February estimate gets a March install.

A worked example

A two-story in Hilliard with 210 feet of gutter, six downspouts, a hip roof with eight corners, and one soft corner of fascia: 6-inch .032 aluminum with 3x4 downspouts at $13 a foot is $2,730; ten feet of fascia at $12 is $120; extensions on six downspouts at $40 are $240. Total about $3,090, one day, old gutters hauled off. The same house quoted at $1,900 is almost certainly 5-inch .027 metal on spike hangers with 2x3 downspouts, which is what's coming off it.

Reading a Columbus gutter quote

Ask for the aluminum gauge (.032, not .027), the hanger type and spacing (hidden screw hangers every 24 inches), the downspout size, whether tear-off and haul-away are included, and how far the extensions carry water. A quote $700 cheaper than the others is usually thinner metal, spikes and 2x3s — the gutters you're replacing, installed again. What the price per foot buys goes line by line.

Any gutter estimate Columbus contractors hand you should be free, in writing, and good for at least 30 days. A price that expires when the salesman leaves the driveway is a sales tactic, not a price.

Questions we get asked

Is it cheaper to repair or replace gutters?

Repair, if the gutters are aluminum, under about 20 years old, and the problems are in one or two spots. Replace if they're sectional with seams every ten feet, rusting steel, or more than a third of the runs need work — the repairs add up to a new system without the warranty, and you're back on the ladder every spring.

Does homeowners insurance cover gutter damage in Ohio?

For sudden events — wind, ice storm damage, a fallen limb — usually yes, minus your deductible. Not for age, wear or gutters that sagged slowly under years of ice. After a storm we document the damage with photos and a written scope for your adjuster. Small claims often fall under the deductible, and we'll tell you if we think that's the case.

How much are gutters for a 2,000 sq ft house in Columbus?

Usually 150–180 linear feet, so $1,500–$2,200 for 5-inch seamless aluminum and $1,800–$2,500 for 6-inch on a single story. Add 15–25% for two stories, and a line for fascia if any of it is soft. Those are typical ranges, not a quote.
